On Saturday, October 5th, the third week of the Strictly Come Dancing twenty-second series took place. This time the contestants had to prepare their performances based on movies.
During rehearsals ahead of Saturday’s live show, fans were drawn to a dancer dressed as Gru from the Despicable Me series. It was Kai Widdrington, performing solo. His colleagues, dressed as yellow Minions in fancy outfits, also created an unforgettable impression on both the audience and the other contenders.
Widdrington, 29, was completely unrecognizable. His look consisted of an all-black outfit, which was highlighted by Gru’s distinctive black and grey striped scarf, and also complemented by pointy patent shoes. A bald wig on top of his hair and a long, pointed nose made him look like a real supervillain. Kai was quick to share his outstanding look on his social networks, where fans and other cast members left their enthusiastic and laughing comments.
Movie Week and another exclusion from Strictly
While everyone was eagerly awaiting the Despicable Me-themed performance and wanted to see what the other contestants had in store, viewers were wondering who would be eliminated from the show this time.
On September 29, the first to leave the show was Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, who performed with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova. Unfortunately, following the results of Movie Week, singer, actress and television presenter Toyah Willcox and pro Neil Jones were eliminated from the Strictly Come Dancing. They performed samba to the song “Poor Unfortunate Souls”, and their performance was inspired by The Little Mermaid.
Another celebrity was absent from last week’s show due to injury. Ahead of the live broadcast, DIY SOS host Nick Knowles announced that he would not be able to compete this week after getting injured during rehearsals. This isn’t the first injury Nick Knowles has suffered while on the show. During his first live performance, Nick injured his arm and shoulder when his car broke down and he had to change a tire on the side of the road. He had his young son with him, so Knowles wanted to make sure his family was safe.
The organizers of Strictly also published a statement about the absence of Nick and his partner Lyuba Mushtuk. According to the rules of the competition, the couple was able to get a bye until next week. In addition, the statement said that all contestants wish Knowles a speedy recovery.
Strictly fans question whether Nick Knowles should continue competing
Meanwhile, Strictly Come Dancing fans continue to debate whether Nick Knowles will return next week or whether he has decided to leave the show. The fears are supported by the fact that when Strictly announced the upcoming dance numbers for this week on October 9, they did not add Nick’s couple to the list. The announcement stated that news about him would be published when the organizers had the necessary information from Knowles.
However, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Nick Knowles’ name was missing from the weekend’s lineup. Others shared their concerns that a knee injury was too serious to return to rehearsals and performances so quickly. Users are also discussing that if Nick Knowles misses another week of performances, he will hardly be able to continue his participation in the show.
Appearing on It Takes Two with host Janette Manrara and dance partner Lyuba, Knowles honestly admitted that a final decision on his performance this week has not yet been made, as it will all depend on whether he gets better. However, he says his knee hurts less and less every day. In any case, the final decision on Nick’s participation in the new episode will not be made until Friday, the day before the live show.
